Beekeeper Witness

Walking in a forest several years ago I could hear a deep, persistent hum through one part of the woods. My brother was the first to realize it was probably a large bee hive hidden in the trees out of sight. It struck me as odd that the insects could be so loud without us close enough to actually see, remaining partially in our imaginations like an abstraction but still thrumming with a powerful electrical buzz in real life. Beekeeper Witness is not about this experience specifically, but about the mystery of sensing something nearby without confronting it directly, the shape of something only partly formed in your awareness.
